Available are two positions, initially limited for 3 years with the option for extension. Work time can be arranged flexible between 19,5 and 39 hours per week. Staffing is subject to final approval of funding provider, starting date is 1 October 2022, interviews are likely to take place in the week 8-12 August 2022.

Your tasks:

You will work on several of the following tasks for which the UFZ team is responsible in the project. Please specify in your application which of the following tasks you are most interested in and at least one for which you are willing to take responsibility:

• Examining along specific value chains (e.g. cattle ranching, soy, cocoa, coffee, sugar cane) the options for advancing the sustainability transformation.
• Developing an evaluation framework (index) to evaluate and safeguard the multidimensional (economic, social, and environmental) impacts of regenerative agriculture.
• Co-developing public and private finance options to support the transition to regenerative agricultural practices.
• Analysing narratives and business models concerning sustainable food chains and co- developing alternative approaches with key players along specific value chains. In addition, we expect all team members to

Act as main contact and scientific support for one of the project’s country teams (Ecuador, Paraguay or Peru)

• Elaborate peer-reviewed journal articles in collaboration with the research group and international partners
• Communicate and disseminate research results to diverse audiences, e.g. private sector, public sector, students, civil society

Your profile:

• Excellent university degree (Master, Diploma) plus either at least 3 years of relevant work experience or a dissertation (PhD) in social (economics, political sciences, etc.) or interdisciplinary sustainability sciences, agricultural or environmental sciences
• Very good knowledge and experience related to several of the above mentioned tasks on agricultural value chains
• Work experience in a Latin American country is desirable
• Ability to plan, organize and conduct research and outreach activities independently
• Publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Willingness to actively engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with other social and natural sciences and with non-academic stakeholders
• Excellent team work capabilities in a multi- and transdisciplinary international team
• Language proficiency in English and Spanish
