Start your mission with DLR.

The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the national aeronautics and space research centre and the space agency of the Federal Republic of Germany. Here, 8000 employees work together on a unique variety of topics in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy, transport, digitalisation and security. Their missions range from basic research to the development of innovative applications and products for tomorrow. Cutting-edge research requires excellent minds – particularly more females – at all levels, who fully achieve their potential in an inspiring environment. Launch your mission with us.

For our Institute of Networked Energy Systems in Oldenburg, we wish to recruit a qualified

Simulation and analysis of the integration of a power-to-fuel plant into the German power transmission system

Your mission:

The DLR Institute of Networked Energy Systems with currently around 150 employees in Oldenburg develops technologies and concepts for future energy supply based on renewable energy sources. The major challenge is how to form stable and efficient energy systems from weather-dependent decentralised production units. The research for this transformation process follows a D3 approach (D3 = Decarbonisation, Decentralisation, Digitalisation).

The interdisciplinary area of energy system analysis creates new knowledge about the complex interrelationships and offers tools for the investigation and evaluation of energy technologies and systems. The KEROSyN100 research project is developing a power-to-fuel plant that produces synthetic kerosene from excess wind energy. The effects of this plant integration on the regional and national energy system are to be evaluated within the scope of the work.

Your responsibilities:
  • You identify relevant parameters for modelling power-to-fuel plants based on a literature research.
  • You create power system simulations with the Open Source program ‘eTraGo’ and carry them out independently.
  • You support the implementation of the power-to-fuel plant model in eTraGo.
  • You develop an evaluation scheme for the assessment of power-to-fuel plant models and analyse your results with current literature and the project partners.

  • Ideally, you have experience in software development environments such as GitHub.
  • You enjoy working in a team and have high communication skills in German and English.

Your benefits:

Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development.
