Chemical laboratory technician/technical employee
The Marine Geology Section at the Alfred Wegener Institute is engaged in reconstructing past climate conditions in the Arctic and Antarctic. This work is based, among other approaches, on the organic-geochemical analysis of sediment samples to investigate past environmental conditions using biomarkers. These data provide an important contribution to better assessing the future development of the global climate system. For the challenging and varied work in our laboratories, we are looking for a motivated employee to start as soon as possible
Tasks
- preparation and performance of geochemical analyses (extraction, liquid and gas chromatography, mass spectrometry) of lipids from sediment and water samples,
- care and maintenance of laboratory aids and analytical equipment,
- independent determination of requirements and ordering of spare parts, consumables and tools for the maintenance of analytical equipment,
- preparation and handling of expedition freight,
- participation in sea-going expeditions.
Requirements
- successfully completed training as a technical assistant or comparable qualification,
- sound knowledge in the field of organic-geochemical lipid analysis and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry,
- very good technical understanding,
- systematic, responsible and independent working style,
- high level of communication and teamwork skills (good English language skills),
- driving license class B,
- experience in using standard (MS Office products) and GC-MS software is desirable
