We currently have an opening for a high-caliber Senior Legal Counsel & Litigation Specialist with demonstrable experience as a lawyer in respect of major international engineering and EPC projects. In addition, the role will include complex claims management and litigation cases. Are you fully qualified to practice law in Germany? Provide legal advice and counsel to ABB management and project teams in relation to a wide range of issues pertaining to non-core business in Germany and internationally, the focus being on offshore wind connection, plant electrification, and substation projects

Your responsibilities

  • Manage disputes, claims, and litigation, including evaluation, preparation of submissions, and progress reporting to internal stakeholders
  • Assist with negotiations relating to claims and settlements, including recommendations on provisions and settlement values, in addition to drawing up settlement agreements
  • Hire, manage, and liaise with external legal counsel, the emphasis being on monitoring progress/deliverables and ensuring cost-effective provision of services
  • Anticipate and identify legal issues of concern to management and proactively develop effective legal strategies and practical solutions in support of speedy resolution
  • Ensure good corporate governance with regard to accountability, support implementation of the Code of Conduct and ongoing integrity training, and assist with investigation and resolution of possible integrity issues

Your background

  • Fully qualified to practice law in Germany (including Second State Exam – Volljurist), preferably complemented by international law or business degree
  • At least 10 years’ hands-on experience as a lawyer, focusing on large-scale international engineering and EPC projects as well as complex claims management and litigation
  • Finely honed negotiating skills, strong personality, and the ability to work independently within a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment, professionalism, and the capacity to influence at all levels
  • Strong command of German and English (second working language)
  • Willingness to travel on assignments in Germany and, occasionally, abroad
