Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists with inspections of properties for compliance with applicable zoning and land use regulations and requirements
Examples of Duties
UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISIONOperates office equipment
Assists with inspections of properties to determine the presence of violations of applicable zoning, land use, binding element, historic preservation and overlay district regulations
Participates in training programs
Prepares reports of daily inspection activities and maintains records of pending re-inspections
Assists enforcement officers in determining property owner, occupants, agents, contractors or interested parties, makes contact to verify ownership and responsibilities, discusses zoning and land use violations, enforcement actions, and intended remedies
Establishes and maintains effective relationships with property owners, occupants, agents, contractors, representatives from other agencies, and the public
Assists with court and administrative hearing inspections
Assists Zoning Enforcement Officer in the field and office
Performs related work.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or the equivalentWORK EXPERIENCE
Six months experience in zoning, building or property maintenance code enforcement, planning, zoning, land use, building trade or a related field
EQUIVALENCY
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must work a varied schedule
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA
Must wear personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of a nationally recognized certification program for zoning, building or property maintenance code enforcement, or obtain within six months of employment
Successful completion of an in-house training program and field evaluation within three months of employment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Communicates with individuals in person and utilizes all types of communication media
Spends prolonged periods of time sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping and climbing
Lifts and carries items weighing up to 75 pounds
Conducts inspections and reviews plans upon completion of an in-house training program and field evaluation
