Creating Knowledge. Since 1502: Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) offers a wide range of
academic subjects in the areas of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and medicine. The oldest and
largest university in Saxony-Anhalt was created in 1817 when the University of Wittenberg (founded in 1502)
merged with Friedrichs University Halle (founded in 1694). Today the university has 340 professors and 20,000
students. Research at the university focuses on nano and life sciences, the Enlightenment, society and culture.
The Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Medical Faculty, Institute of Pathology, Section for Experi-
mental Pathology (Head: Jun.-Prof. Dr. Monika Hämmerle), offers a position for a
Research Fellow/PhD-student (13 TV-L, 65%) (m-f-d)
The position is available as soon as possible and limited to 3 years.

The project:
This position is part of the research unit ‘Non-autonomous Mechanisms in Cancer’ (NAUTICA), funded by the
Medical Faculty, and can be associated with the newly established research training group RTG 2751 InCuPanc
(Inflammatory cues as modulators of early pancreatic carcinogenesis), funded by the DFG. Being part of these
consortia enables networking with clinician scientist and basic researchers and provides excellent interdisci-
plinary training as part of a doctoral thesis.

Tasks:
  • Characterizing pro-tumorigenic and pro-metastatic signaling pathways in solid tumors focusing on the role of
lncRNAs and RBPs as regulators of the tumor microenvironment
  • Identification of new target molecules for innovate cancer treatment
  • Opportunity for further academic qualification (PhD) is given
  • Support in teaching, especially mentoring of students/interns in the laboratory

Requirements:
  • Master degree in the fields of life sciences (biochemistry, biology, or related)
  • Basic skills in biochemical and molecular biology techniques (e.g. Cloning; CRISPR-Cas9)
  • Basic skills in mammalian cell culture
  • Experience with immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry is beneficial
  • Experience with laboratory animals (mice) including Felasa B certificate would be of advantage
  • Knowledge of different data bases (Pubmed, COSMIC, cBioportal)
  • Basic understanding of “cancer biology” and statistics / bioinformatics would be preferred
  • Good/excellent command of English, both spoken and written
  • Innovative, independent and reliable working behavior paired with high intrinsic motivation
  • Proactive team player with a readiness of mind and a strong passion for science
