Principal Data Engineer (m/f/d) YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES "Digital transformation of the core" is an essential pillar of the Bayer Pharmaceuticals' strategy. With this strategy, we accelerate our data science and technology capabilities across the value chain to improve outcomes and productivity. To do so, we decouple core data assets from light-weight agile software products that consume and generate data. It is the purpose of this role to contribute to the creation, implementation and continuous improvement of the Data Assets of Bayer Pharmaceuticals. We define Data Assets as data sources with a high value potential from re-use across the value chain. Data Assets are data products that provide programmatic access to these sources for data scientists and computer systems. * Responsibility to create and maintain an optimal data pipeline architecture and assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements * Functional leadership of data engineering team to take well informed design choices for data models, pipelines and integration patterns * Complement Bayer's data engineering team with additional external capacity by identification, contracting and ensuring delivery via external partners * Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements:

automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability and re-usability * Build the infrastructure required for optimal interoperability and reusability of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL, noSQL, API, virtualization and streaming technologies * Collaborate with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to consult on data-related issues and support their data infrastructure needs * Keep our data separated and secure across national boundaries through multiple data centers and cloud providers * Create data products for

"plug & play"
consumption and re-use of key data assets by data scientists and systems to further strengthen our industry leadership position in digital innovation WHO YOU ARE * University degree (M. Sc.) in Computer Science, Software Engineering or in a related discipline, PhD is preferred * Long-term experience in SQL, noSQL, API mgmt., virtualization, streaming and related technologies to ensure interoperability of large amounts of various data sources * Several years of professional experience building and optimizing 'big data' data pipelines, architectures and data sets * Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management * A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large federated datasets * Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment as well as strong project management and organizational skills * Relevant experience with Big data tools, relational SQL and NoSQL databases, data pipeline and workflow management tools, AWS cloud services, stream-processing systems as well as several scripting languages * Fluent in English, written and spoken YOUR APPLICATION Are you looking for a new challenge where you can show your passion for innovation?
