Thesis Assessing algal eco-physiology towards climate change
In the division "Biosciences", section “Shelf Sea Systems Ecology” (Alfred-Wegener-Institut Helmholtz-Zentrum für Polar- und Meeresforschung) we are looking for a Master student (Biology/Ecology/Physiology).
Assessing algal eco-physiology towards climate change
: how will the cellular biochemical composition and stress levels change under future environmental conditions?
Tasks
Performing 1-2 laboratory experiment(s) with keystone algal species and changes in biotic and/or abiotic parameters within a full-factorial design. Maintaining algal cultures. Assessing their variation in growth and biochemistry using a trait-based approach and analyses based on their physical and chemical properties, such as flow cytometry, microscopy, spectroscopy and high-resolution respirometry.Requirements
- Enthusiasm and interest in marine phytoplanktonic eco-physiology and climate change;
- Enrolment in a relevant Master’s degree programme
Further Information
- The place of employment will be Helgoland (Germany)
