Job Description Description Job Summary Xylem is looking for an experienced employment lawyer to provide and manage employment legal support for all Xylem locations in Europe, with a focus on UK, Germany, France and Italy. This person will report to the Vice President, General Counsel of Compliance and Ethics, located in Rye Brook NY. This is a full time position located in our either our Nanterre, France;

Milan, Italy, or Langenhagen, Germany offices. Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the main legal contact for all HR business partners and other key stakeholders for all European employment law matters * Serve as the main contact for external employment attorneys;
manage relationships and spend with outside counsel across Europe * Communicate regularly and clearly with HR business partners and other key stakeholders on strategy, developments, and trends;

implement systematic solutions that address strategy and trends * Serve as a single legal point of contact for Xylem for works council matters, working closely with HR business partners * Think strategically and assist with proactive management of employment legal risk * Provide legal expertise and advice on a wide range of HR activities, including recruiting, hiring, performance management, terminations, investigations, disciplinary actions, organizational changes, employment contract issues and reviews, dismissals, negotiated exits, settlement agreements, e employment related agreements, employee representation and work councils, ongoing and threatened employment legal disputes * Design and provide necessary training and tools to HR business partners and other key stakeholders based on needs and observed trends * Monitor relevant legislation and regulation and advise key stakeholders accordingly * Review, advise, and help implement strategic employment policies and procedures that align with Xylem's overall business strategy * Align business strategy and corporate activities with local legal requirements * Strategically manage the function, providing advice to the business and providing training to the business as needed * Manage the relationship with outside counsel, including fee arrangements and associated budget Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
  • European Legal degree, preferably German, French or Italian * 6-8 years of experience managing employment legal issues in continental Europe, with a substantial amount of that in-house with a complex global organization * Experience with works councils in continental Europe, including in Germany * Experience working with senior stakeholders on sensitive matters * Experience strategically managing a budget and resources;
adept at analyzing dataand recommending changes and different solutions based on analysis * Transparent and strong oral and written communication, advisory and negotiation skill;

committed to open communication and exchange of views * Ability to work across boundaries and to effectively collaborate across functional areas in a complex matrixed organization * Commercial and business focused, with solid judgment and a deep working knowledge of commercial, operational, and financial concepts;

ability to prioritize issues and risks that have the most significance to the business and proactively manage projects and address problems in creative and pragmatic ways * Ability to analyze and use the broader legal, regulatory and market risk and trends to proactively influence the development of the legal strategy and re-evaluate and re-prioritize tasks, projects, and objectives based on such information, and to communicate risk to stakeholders * Ability to leverage quantitative and qualitative information to make risk-based decisions at the speed of business, taking into account both internal and external stakeholder views and market-based data and best practices * Organized and comfortable managing a diverse caseload in a dynamic environment * Pragmatic and solutions-orientated with a commitment to continuous improvement * Fluent in English and one of the following languages:

German, French or Italian * Flexibility to travel 15-25%
