Valuation Actuary

Munich Re - München - 25-07-2022 zur Vakanz

The division Munich Re Markets has a global mandate for a wide range of business, starting with capital market solutions deploying our own hedging platform, continuing with special structures of Life reinsurance and not ending with Epidemic Risk Solutions for both Life and Nonlife risks. The environment is both diverse and challenging!

The section is responsible for a broad range of tasks around monitoring and reporting of this business, with divisional interfaces to the group’s risk management, reserving and controlling divisions as well as the legal risk carrier and others. Current challenges do also include the introduction of the standards IFRS 17 and IFRS 9, the latter of which is applicable to the larger part of our portfolio.

Reporting duties are recurring, but the content is always different due to a variety of reasons and effects. Further to these duties, we shape our future by ultimately striving for the highest possible automation of our processes. A high degree of automation is required to scale up our business and, in the end, to enable the division to succeed with its ambition.

Are you a self-motivated number cruncher with a passion for coding? Are you interested in working in a multinational and interdisciplinary team? Then a multitude of challenging tasks awaits you!

Note:

Along this staffing process, we are also considering changes in the internal task allocation. The tasks mentioned below describe some of the team’s general tasks, and the concrete allocation of challenges to the new holder of the open position will be determined along the staffing process. On the other hand, against this background there is both freedom and preparedness to consider your interests in the final decision and the final task allocation!

Your job

  • Driving automation further, i.e. detect and close gaps by fixing existing or developing new code (we essentially use R & SQL)
  • Contributing to other tasks of the team, such as the overarching quality assurance and processes around internal and external audit
Your profile
  • University degree in (actuarial/finance) mathematics, physics or informatics; ongoing or completed training for fellowship in an actuarial society is considered an asset
  • Very good skills in R (e.g., the data.table package) & SQL, with JAVA being an advantage
  • At least 3 years of experience in (re-)insurance (Life or Nonlife), investment banking, consultancy or in related areas, ideally with some knowledge in valuation models, IFRS 9/17 and / or solvency standards
  • Experience in project work and, ideally, project management
