ABB is a key player in industrial automation, electrification, robotics & discrete manufacturing and motion, including automation systems, software tools and platforms, and control solutions. A major challenge in these fields is the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) into the production processes to enable further autonomy of the production. This affects e.g. intelligent sensors, edge computing, smart production systems as well as enterprise-level cloud application. We at ABB Corporate Research Germany develop cutting-edge data analytics solutions to support ABB’s future automation business.

Your responsibilities

• We are looking for a data scientist in the fields of applied data analytics, machine learning and statistics, ideally with additional expertise from the industrial domain.
• You will join a dynamic and engaged international research team for creating AI solutions in process and manufacturing industries.
• As a data scientist, your focus lies on developing advanced machine learning and statistical models, algorithms and systems, working co-innovation projects often with direct customer involvement.
• You will iinitiate, lead, and participate in challenging research projects and work with ABB businesses, customers and leading universities.
• You will supervise students, publish scientific articles and secure intellectual property by patent applications.

Your background

• Ideally, you built your career on a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemical engineering, process engineering or electrical / mechanical engineering.
• You have a PhD or at least two years working experience in the field of data science, advanced analytics or machine learning.
• You have experience in at least one of the following fields: data analytics, applied statistics, signal processing, algorithmics, or machine learning.
• You have hands-on experience with the relevant software libraries and frameworks (e.g. SKlearn, Apache Spark, SciPy, Keras, Pytorch).
• You have well-developed communication skills, cultural awareness, and excellent networking abilities.
• You are fluent in English and willing to learn German, have sharp analytical and problem-solving skills as well as excellent team spirit.
