Working Student as Metrology Assistant (f/m/d) in Schenefeld

One responsibility of the X-Ray Optics group is the metrology of X-ray optical components of highest possible quality that are used in the up to 1 km long underground photon beamlines. Typical metrology tasks are, for example, on ultra-flat surfaces of X-Ray mirrors, vibration studies on beamline components and logging of environmental data like seismic excitations or the acoustic noise floor. For tasks related to these activities we are looking for a Working Student as Metrology Assistant (f/m/d) max. 8 hours per week.

Was du machen wirst:

We offer a very good insight into the fundamental base of experimental work in a physics laboratory, how to perform optical and other measurements, how to handle data, analyze and interpret the results and to write measurement reports. As a student your tasks will look as follows:

• Learn and help with general hands-on laboratory work (experimental physics) and metrology measurements, in part under cleanroom conditions
• Optimize or write computer scripts for automated measurements, data evaluation and working with our mirror data base
• Set up and analyze various measurements ranging from interferometry to vibration and acoustic measurements

Duration: This appointment is initially limited to 6 months. An extension might be possible subject to a later decision.

• Eingeschriebene/r Student/in an einer staatlich anerkannten Hochschule
• On-going studies in Physics or related subjects in the Hamburg area
• Curiosity to learn about high-precision measurement methods in the environment of an international user facility
• Basic knowledge in Python programming (or equivalent programming languages)
• Additional programming languages and LaTeX are beneficial
