As Coinbase continues to expand internationally, we are looking for an exceptional candidate to help build out and run our German operations, headquartered in Berlin.
The Germany Head of Operations will play a critical role in the day to day operation of the German business and in managing relationships with regulators, banking partners and other service providers.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
Play a key role in supporting the application process with the BaFin for a licence under the new crypto custody licensing regime that has recently been introduced in GermanyBe the primary point of contact for the BaFIN day-to-day once licensed and have key responsibility for managing outsourced services provided by other CB group entities, ensuring that Coinbase Germany operates in full compliance with the requirements of its licence
Liaise closely with teams in London, Dublin and San Francisco to ensure smooth operation of the business
Manage day to day relationships with key third parties such as banking partners
Oversee business operations and work closely with the Country Manager to develop and grow the business and deliver the best of Coinbase to German customers
Role reports into the GM, Europe based in London
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
At least 8 years experience in a Project Management, Legal or Operations role in a BaFin regulated entity in the securities or payment services sectorSolid understanding of the German regulatory landscape for financial services, including requirements around outsourcing
Familiarity with regulatory relations work and experience in responding to regulatory consultations and engaging with regulators to help shape emerging regulation, as well as managing regulatory audits
Fluency in English and German
Previous experience working in a multinational US-headquartered business helpful but not essential
Great communication skills and the ability to work effectively in an international organisation, implementing global standards while ensuring that local requirements are met
Good understanding of how the various functions of a regulated financial services business operate (e.g. Compliance, Finance, Risk, Treasury, Audit, Outsourcing)
Keen interest in crypto/blockchain (expertise not a prerequisite but willingness to learn essential)
Self-starter who is excited at the prospect of growing a business in a fast developing sector
Pragmatic and solutions-oriented - always looking for more efficient and effective ways to do things
