The Hapag-Lloyd system landscape is in massive shift from on-prem to cloud. This includes collaboration solutions, FICO solutions, and especially our "Freight Information System" as backbone of our shipping business and benchmark of the industry. Become part of this journey: shape the enterprise architecture by providing strategic technical directions and assisting in architectural matters of the interplay between the current and target landscape.

As Enterprise Architect, you act as all-rounder for support in architectural questions of self-developed and Of-the-Shelf solutions. You drive the future-state architecture for taking advantage of opportunities and mitigating threats. You roadmap the architecture and align it with the business capabilities and IT strategy.

You pro-actively take up needs for architectural decisions, evaluate and prototype options, and drive implementation of decisions into the organization.

You involve yourself in early requirement gathering phases of initiatives, align with business requirements, and accompany projects in the architectural shaping of solution designs fitting to the overall architecture landscape and ensuring business value.

Therefore, you work simultaneously in multiple projects and foster the connection and architectural knowledge exchange and architectural guideline adherence within the organization.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Advising project teams on the architectural design or migration of solutions during requirement gathering to design phase; consulting in make-or-buy decisions
  • Developing, aligning and documenting the to-be architecture and roadmap
  • Defining architectural guidelines and taking architecture decisions after having evaluated options, govern and supporting development teams to adhere to them
  • Reviewing and hands-on optimizing existing solution and platform designs with focus on communication / data exchange, security, and performance
  • Enabling architectural thinking in the organization, establishing an active EA community, interdisciplinary cooperating with IT teams and business stakeholders to clarify and solve cross-domain issues
  • Managing the as-is architecture documentation, analyzing dependencies and deriving technical debt actions

Requirements and Qualifications:

What you'll need to succeed

  • Deep knowledge and interest in architectural design of software solutions and system landscapes, standards and reference architectures
  • multi-year experience on Enterprise Architecture work and Biz-IT-Alignment in large organizations
  • experience in documentation management of as-is vs. to-be architectures, road-mapping and dependency analysis
  • enterprise architect certification is appreciated
  • broad knowledge on different system types (off-the-shelf vs. custom made) and implementation thereof (especially in Java/JEE)
  • Completed studies in computer science or comparable
  • Strong communication skills, self-responsibility and team player, being a bridge builder in a complex systems landscape between various IT teams and our business stakeholders
  • Commercial thinking mindset and experience with make-or-buy decision making
  • Very good command of written and spoken English
  • On-site work for at least 3 days/week in our IT office in central Hamburg
German language expectations:
We expect all international candidates to be willing to learn at least the basics of the German language in case they are accepted for the position. This will enable you to participate in social and community life in Germany and at our company premises in the best possible way.

Nice if you have:

  • Understanding of HL IT Products
  • Understanding of container shipping business is an advantage
