Creating Knowledge. Since 1502: Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) offers a wide range of
academic subjects in the areas of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and medicine. The oldest and
largest university in Saxony-Anhalt was created in 1817 when the University of Wittenberg (founded in 1502)
merged with Friedrichs University Halle (founded in 1694). Today the university has 340 professors and 20,000
students. Research at the university focuses on nano and life sciences, the Enlightenment, society and culture.
The Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Medical Faculty, Institute of Pathology (Max-Eder Junior
Research Group), is seeking a
Research scientist (m-f-d)
(wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter*in, salary TV-L E13 65%)
The position is available immediately and limited until September 30, 2023.

The project:
An innovative and highly motivated environment awaits you as part of a Max-Eder junior research group
supported by the German Cancer Aid with the aim of understanding the role of platelets and tumor-associ-
ated thrombocytosis. Own preliminary work has shown a significant impact of platelets on tumor growth
and metastasis (JCI 2016; Nature Comm 2017; Blood 2017; MCT 2017; Cancer Cell 2018), which we would like
to characterize further, thereby focusing on the regulation of the tumor immune microenvironment by pla-
telets.

Tasks:
  • Characterizing the role of platelets in tumor growth and metastasis in solid tumors using in vitro and in vivo
experiments
  • Supervision of Bachelor, Master or medical students
  • Possibility for preparing a doctoral thesis

Requirements:
  • Master degree in the fields of life sciences (biochemistry, biology, or related)
  • Basic skills in biochemical and molecular biology techniques (e.g. Cloning; CRISPR-Cas9)
  • Basic skills in mammalian cell culture
  • Experience with immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry is beneficial
  • Experience with laboratory animals (mice) including Felasa B certificate would be of advantage
  • Knowledge of different data bases (Pubmed, COSMIC, cBioportal)
  • Basic understanding of “cancer biology” and statistics / bioinformatics would be preferred
  • Good/excellent command of English, both spoken and written
  • Innovative, independent and reliable working behavior paired with high intrinsic motivation
  • Proactive team player with a readiness of mind and a strong passion for science
