You will be part of the Bank Lending Conditions Section of the Monetary Analysis Division in the Directorate General Monetary Policy. Our Section is made up of approximately 15 people and is responsible for working on the calibration of monetary policy measures, including non-standard measures, based on how they affect the economy through the banking system. We monitor and conduct regular analysis of the transmission of monetary policy through banks, including its interaction with microprudential and macroprudential policies. We also have primary responsibility for the ECB’s bank lending survey.The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. Your role
As an Economist you will:- conduct regular analysis of the transmission of monetary policy through banks and assess bank liquidity and funding conditions across the euro area;
- assess the implications of banks’ regulatory and supervisory frameworks for the monetary policy transmission mechanism and the wider economy;
- develop analytical tools to inform the design and assessment of monetary policy options;
- coordinate inputs and contribute to policy notes and briefing material for members of the Executive Board and senior management of the ECB;
- contribute to the official publications of the ECB, as well as other publications, presentations and speeches.

Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
- a master’s degree or equivalent in economics or another relevant field (see
for details of degree equivalences);
- a sound knowledge of statistical and econometric techniques for analytical purposes;
- experience in preparing policy-related briefings and analytical material;
- very good writing skills and the ability to draft well-structured notes to strict deadlines;
- the ability to identify and address policy issues and to present analytical findings in both non-technical terms to policymakers and technical terms at academic conferences;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the

- a PhD in economics or another relevant field, together with a research and publication record.

Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints. This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB Conditions of Employment.The contract offered will be fixed-term, the appointment being for 12 months as of the exact starting date of the selected person.
