The aim of this PhD project is to investigate the effect of key determinants of a sustainable agricultural production and food consumption on the availability of agricultural goods for energy and chemical uses, and the optimal energetic or material usage of these resources against different sustainability criteria. A systems perspective and systems modelling on the use of agricultural goods in Germany within a global context will be applied, in order to cover the most important aspects within the complex “system of systems” that agriculture and agricultural goods are part of.The PhD will be hosted by the department of Bioenergy of the UFZ. University supervisor will be Prof. Daniela Thrän (University of Leipzig).
Your profile:
- MSc or equivalent in environmental sciences, engineering, agricultural sciences or a related fields
- Programming skills (R, Python, Matlab, GAMS or similar)
- experience in energy and resource related topics and systems modelling is desirable
- strong interest in analyzing and modelling food and energy related topics
- good scientific writing and ideally publishing experiences
- capability to network and cooperate with and integrate research from different fields
- fluent German and English.
We offer:
