Your tasks:
The successful candidate will study the role of benthic macroinvertebrates in controlling in-stream primary production applying the concept of trophic transfer efficiencies along a gradient of agricultural land use intensity. The research comprises the study of consumer-resource interactions in the Terrestrial Environmental Observatory of the UFZ (www.tereno.net) and experiments employing UFZ’s mesocosm infrastructure MOBICOS (www.ufz.de/index.php?en=42379).Your profile:
- Candidates should have completed a MSc in a water related discipline of ecological or environmental sciences before the date of appointment and demonstrate enthusiasm to integrate different fields of freshwater ecology in an interdisciplinary project.
- Applicants should possess extensive analytical skills, and an ability to handle complex data sets via appropriate statistical methods.
- Preferably, they should be trained in freshwater invertebrate taxonomy and should be willing to conduct extensive field work.
- Practical skills in sampling for and analysis of stable isotopes are beneficial.
- An EU level B, BE or equivalent driving license is required.
- We expect the motivation to work in an interdisciplinary team as well as the capability to work independently.
- Good communication skills in English are mandatory.
