Your tasks:
The successful candidate will join project iCAP-BES, to assist with an integrative analysis of how the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) affects land-use, farm management, biodiversity, and rural societies (production, economy, demography). The work links to ongoing efforts to collate, harmonize and analyse data from Germany and across the EU that can improve traceability the impacts of different CAP instruments, based on spatial variation within and among Member States.Key tasks will be to collate and harmonize data-sources regarding land-use and management, farm employment and economy, and selected biodiversity data pending permission from data owners. Sources may include EC reports, FAOSTAT and Eurostat; Destatis and ministry data; IACS and FADN data for selected regions; databases generated through sDiv efforts; and monitoring networks for selected taxa.
The candidate may also help organizing and participating in relevant project workshops and invited to join in writing reports and scientific articles.
Your profile:
- B.Sc. or preferably M.Sc. in a related research discipline (e.g. ecology, geography, environmental data analysis)
- Experience in working with spatial and/or temporal databases and/or monitoring data desirable
- Demonstrated experience with statistical programming languages (e.g. R)
- Experience with geographical data and analyses (using GIS software)
- An interest in, and basic knowledge, of relevant European policies, particularly the Common Agricultural Policy and the Habitats Directive, is beneficial but not essential
- Interested in working within an interdisciplinary context
- Interest and experience in teamwork, and the capacity to communicate with various people and stakeholders groups from various EU member states, is highly beneficial
- High proficiency in English (both written and verbal) is highly beneficial
