PhD student (m/f/d) Geophysics
The goal of the project is to collect data on the location and intensity of palaeo-currents in the area of the Falkland Plateau, southwestern Atlantic Ocean, during the Tertiary. As boundary conditions both the tectonic events, such as the opening of the Drake Passage, and the climatic development, e.g., the glaciation of Antarctica, have to be taken into consideration. A high-resolution seismic reflection dataset, which has to be processed, correlated with geological information from existing DSDP and ODP sites and interpreted will form the basis for the investigation. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with national and international partners and demands a high degree of independence, as well as the ability to work well as part of a team.
Tasks
- Processing and interpretation of seismic data
- Correlation with Geological Information at DSDP Sites
- Integration with parasound and bathymetric data
- Formulation of peer-reviewed manuscripts
- Presentation of results at national/international meetings
Requirements
- A degree (Master, Diploma) in geosciences, preferably Geophysics or similar
- Knowledge in seismic data processing and seismostratigraphy
- Interest in processes of sediment transport and oceanic currents
- Experience with Linux
- Readiness to participate in marine expeditions
