Thesis Abundance of Class 1 Integron

Alfred-Wegener - via Umantis - Helgoland - 06-05-2019 zur Vakanz

Class 1 integrons are genetic elements involved in the spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). Since conserved motifs of these integrons suggest a single ancestor, these genetic elements were recently coined as “invasive species” by Gillings (2017) and showed a steep increase in abundance and distribution during the last 100 years. Nowadays, they are found in more than 70 medically important bacterial species, and reside in the human gut and domesticated animals. In the framework of the German joint research project PLAWES

sediment samples were taken in 2018 covering the whole system of the River Weser up to the Wadden Sea.
