Subject: Diversity and specialization of arbuscular mycorrhiza as a driver of long-term biodiversity-ecosystem functioning relationships in plant communities

Working time: 65% (25,35 hours per week), limited to 48 months, Anticipated start of the project is 1st of January 2020.

Your tasks:

  • Sampling of soil and root-associated mycorrhiza and microbiota in the field and Ecotron units
  • Isolation and Illumina sequencing of DNA
  • Analysis of sequencing data, also in combination of data from collaborating projects
  • Quantification of mycorrhization rates by microscopy
  • Participation in training courses, workshops and conferences

Your profile:

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate holding a Diploma or M.Sc. in biology, bioinformatics, ecology or related sciences who is interested in the role of fungi-plant interactions in the relationship of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. Applicants should be trained in sampling and analysis of microbiomes or mycorrhiza, in bioinformatics or biostatistics, and should have experience in conducting laboratory analyses. Knowledge of plant community ecology, biodiversity-ecosystem functioning experiments, field or mesocosm studies are a plus. We expect the motivation to work in an interdisciplinary team as well as the capability to work independently, in the field, laboratory and computationally.
